Lisa US ELLE September 2024

Throughout 2024, American ELLE has become somewhat of a hit and miss. Covers starring the likes of HoYeon Jung, Anya Taylor-Joy and Vittoria Ceretti have pretty much flopped. On the opposite end of the scale, covers with Penélope Cruz, Nicole Kidman and Dua Lipa have won us over completely. Nina Garcia ushers in one of the biggest stars from the world of K-pop for the magazine’s all-important September offering. Give it up for Lisa (of the girl group Blackpink) who makes a return to the cover of the American fashion glossy, following her debut cover appearance back in October 2020. Four years later, Lisa can be found posing for photographer Gregory Harris. In the cover photograph, the Thai rapper, singer, dancer, and fashion darling poses in a top and jeans from Stella McCartney, teamed with a pair of boots from The Frye Company by cover shoot stylist Nicola Formichetti.

“When it comes to covers, ELLE really fell off as the year progressed. I’m not mad with the choice of cover star. I’m mad that such a lackluster image was chosen for a cover, especially a September issue,” shared KoV.

“Also haven’t exactly been best impressed with Nina Garcia’s ELLE of late. Covers have become sterile, lifeless and a complete non-event. Not at all motivated by the fact we’ve got a Lisa cover for September, and this whole concept just feels very… overdone,” vogue28 echoed.

“Looks like a free magazine that you would receive at a University fashion show in Seoul,” an underwhelmed Urban Stylin pointed out.

Snejana Onopka wasn’t feeling it either, commenting: “Lisa is very beautiful and carries the clothes well. However, she has zero attitude in this!”

“Complete overexposure on magazine covers. Lisa hasn’t even had a Top 50 solo hit in the US. Miss the days of the big names and excitement of September magazine covers. Now we have Lisa and Blake Lively,” sighed Gary89.
